This week we were working on the lidded vessel project and not only was it the second most annoying project I've ever done but it is the only one that has blown up in the kiln but when i was ready to get it out the whole lid was destroyed and crushed into pieces, with no time to make a new one or start over. Basically I'm racking my brain trying to find an alternative for a lid to go with my vessel. I used a Pinterest board to find ideas or inspiration on the matter with no luck but i did pin some really cool stuff http://www.pinterest.com/awkwardkarie/lidded-vessels/ . I intended to use an inset lid style but with no lid I don't think it really matters. I truly believe that it could have been functional if everything turned out as planned, but its not because it exploded and then was smashed. I used a mold to create the shape of the bowl and i think it turned out pretty well. I guess you could call it a mixture of hand building, coiling, and slab all together because all of those techniques were used in shaping the vessel.
